David C. Cornwell died in the arms of his daughter on March 17, 2013, at Carlsbad Medical Center. There will be no services and cremation has taken place under the direction of West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com

David Cook Cornwell was born in Sour Lake, Texas, on Sept. 9, 1932, to Beverly "B.L." and Bertie Beatrice (Cook) Cornwell. He was raised in Sour Lake and graduated from Beaumont High School. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded Soldier of the Month in the Korean War and presented with an inscribed gold watch by his commanding officer.
David worked as a surveyor in oil exploration for five years and was a participant in the International Geophysical Year 1957-58 conducting surveying work in Guatemala. He was employed by US Potash and retired from Amax Potash in 1984, where he had worked as a mill operator.
Following retirement, he loved riding his bicycle and rode the entire county from sun up until sundown. He also found great pleasure in baking homemade bread and giving it to the homeless.
Baptist by faith, he took great joy in reading his bible daily. His favorite scripture was John 3:16.
David is preceded in death by: his parents; and brothers: Beverly and Paul Cornwell; and sister, Carrie Cornwell.
He is survived by son, Michael Cornwell and wife, Hillary of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter, Theresa Cornwell Galloway of Carlsbad; sister, Bertie LaDuke of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Erica Wyatt and husband, Brandon of Carlsbad and Danielle Galloway of Gardendale, Texas; great-grandchildren: Lydia, Landon and Logan Wyatt and Hunter James; niece, Wendy Blount and husband, Laurence; and great-niece, Kaylee Blount, all of Houston.
