Jerry "J.L." Bush, 83, of Standpipe Road, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014, at his home. Graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 14) at Carlsbad Cemetery. Rev. David Rogers of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and Pastor Clark Wilkinson of First Nazarene Church of Amarillo, Texas, will officiate. Military Honors will be performed by the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday at West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com
Jerry Lonnie "J.L." Bush was born to Jessie and Maggie (Fulcher) Bush on July 17, 1931, in Hamlin, Texas. He moved to Carlsbad at age 9 and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1951.
J.L. served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-1952.
J.L. and Mary Meaker Bush were married in August 1979. The loves of his life were his wife and his dog, "King Kong". He enjoyed his grandchildren, chickens and horses. His favorite pastimes were roping and going to the casino. He will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, one daughter, one son and two twin granddaughters.
J.L. is survived by his wife Mary; daughter, DeLynn Stewart; sons: Don and wife Jennifer Chidester and Dru and wife Amber Chidester; grandsons: Richard Estrada, Zac Foreman and Robbie Bush; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and close friends, Sammy and Ann Clark.
Pallbearers are Don Chidester, Dru Chidester, Bill McClosky, Keith Bush and Tyler Bush. Honorary Pallbearers are Sammy Clark, Lois Hickman and Kristen Chidester.
The family would like to say thank you to so many for their love and support as well as Golden Services staff for such wonderful care. Special thanks to Dr. Kim Lark for her special attention and Pastors Dave Rogers and Clark Wilkinson for their Pastoral support and guidance. God Bless.
