Jerry Lee Heine Obituary
Jerry Heine, 83, of Carlsbad, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at his home. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Apr. 19) at Epworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Huston officiating. Masonic Rites will be performed by Eddy Lodge No. 21 AF&AM. Masonic Lodge of sorrow will convene at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at Eddy Lodge No. 21, 513 N. Canyon Street, Carlsbad. There is no visitation and cremation has taken place under the direction of West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at
Jerry Lee Heine was born to Berry F. and Gladys (Lanier) Heine on March 12, 1931, in Roswell, N.M. He was raised in Roswell and graduated Roswell High School before attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., where he earned a B.S. in animal husbandry.
Jerry and Carolyn (Christen) Heine were married on March 16, 1952, in Ft. Collins, Colo..
After college, he joined the Air Force. He was the proud pilot of a C-124 cargo plane. He then returned to the family farm for several years in East Grand Plains. Jerry was owner of Hamilton Roofing Company in Carlsbad for many years prior to his retirement in 1992. He was an active member of Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 21, Experimental Aircraft Association, NRA and Epworth United Methodist Church and a past member of Carlsbad Rotary Club.
He had a dream to build his own plane and fly it. He accomplished that goal in the mid and late 1990s. He got to fly his plane for about two years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Stacey Heine; grandson, J.J. Carter; brother, Berry Heine Jr. and sister, Judy Spotts.
Jerry is survived by his wife Carolyn, sons: Bruce Heine of Lubbock, Texas; Randy and Kent Heine of Carlsbad; Chris Heine of Amarillo, Texas, and daughter, Joan Grimes of Carlsbad; brothers: Freddie Heine of Roswell, N.M. and Jon Heine of Tucson, Ariz; and sister, Linda Coll of Roswell, N.M..; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
