Rees Lucas, 53, of Carlsbad, N.M., passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.

Jameson Rees Lucas was born Aug. 16, 1959, to Jameson C. and Virginia B. Lucas in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He graduated with honors from Carlsbad High School with the Class of 1977. While in high school, he lettered and won numerous honors and awards in track and field, was the editor-in-chief of the Pow Wow newspaper, and was involved in Boy Scouts of America, of which he was a lifetime member. After high school, he attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M., where he majored in journalism.
After college he returned to Carlsbad, working as a sports writer for the Carlsbad Current-Argus. Later on, he worked for the City of Carlsbad Water Department, where he obtained the highest level in water management. In 1999, he started work for Celtech Corporation, where he was most recently the project manager in the engineering department.
Rees married Jacqueline Nicholas on Nov. 9, 1984, in Carlsbad, N.M. They had three children: Paulette, Jameson W. and Michelle. Rees was an amazing and compassionate man who always brought life, laughter and music to anyone who knew him. He lived a full life and involved himself in a variety of organizations, groups and hobbies including: The Proof, praise and worship team of New Song Christian Fellowship, the founder and member of Regulators semi-pro football, Little Caveman Buffalos head coach 2008-2012, Uneven flag football team member, political aspirations (city council 2004, county commissioner 1996), lifetime member of Boy Scouts of America and a member of B.P.O.E. No. 1558.
Rees was able to enjoy other parts of the world such as South Korea, Singapore and Colombia through his work with Celtech, and along with great stories, he brought back new cooking techniques to add to his always amazing and delicious cooking. Rees was a one of a kind man who loved to rock out in his snake skin boots, show off new dance moves that would leave anyone watching in tears of laughter, and brought endless joy and memories to his family and friends.
Rees is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Lucas; three children: Paulette Henry and husband, Dustin of Carlsbad, N.M., Jameson W. Lucas of Carlsbad, N.M., and Michelle Thayer Lucas of Carlsbad, N.M.; three grandchildren: McKenzie Porter, Dylan Henry and Taylnn Henry, all of Carlsbad; mother, Virginia Lucas; brother, Berry Lucas and wife Janice; their children: Kara Howard and husband, Randy of Roswell, N.M., Berry Lucas and wife, Rachel of Carlsbad, N.M., and Rebecca Lucas of Carlsbad, N.M.; and numerous relatives.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jameson C. Lucas; and grandmother, Virginia Thayer Lucas.
A celebration of Rees' life and legacy will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Carlsbad Family Fellowship. Condolences can be expressed at www.reeslucas.com and charitable donations can be given to Carlsbad's Noah's Ark Animal Shelter or New Song Christian Fellowship.
