Wilma Jean Magby Obituary
Wilma Jean Magby, 83, of North Happy Valley Road, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at University Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today (Dec. 11) at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at First Christian Church with the Rev. David W. Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, N.M. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Wilma Jean Magby was born June 24, 1929, in Carlsbad, N.M., to John Robert and Grace Eleanor (Forehand) Smith. She graduated from high school in 1947. Wilma was a rural mail carrier for more than 20 years in the Carlsbad area. She enjoyed the mountains. Wilma loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed her constant companion, Prissy, her dog. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Leroy" Magby on Nov. 24, 2007; sons: Steve Magby and Dennis Magby; grandson, Shawn Phillips; sisters: Lois Edwards and Ella Lou Adkins; and brothers: Edgar Smith and David Smith.
Survivors are two daughters: Nida Ballard and husband, Frank of Malaga, N.M., and Melba Phillips and husband, Tommy of Carlsbad, N.M.; six grandchildren: Shanna Phillips, Raeleen Reed, Wayland Magby, Daniel Magby, Tim Ballard and Andy Magby; four great-grandchildren: Daneigh Lauhoff, Sam Ballard, Autumn Magby and Aubrey Magby; two sisters: Elsie "Tootie" Groves of Carlsbad, N.M., and Gracie Mathews and husband, Ron of Carlsbad, N.M.; two brothers: Harold "Buddy" Smith and wife, Wanda of Ohio and Russell Smith and wife, Mae of Florida.
Pallbearers will be Shanna Phillips, Raeleen Reed, Wayland Magby, Daniel Magby, Tim Ballard and Andy Magby.
