Dan B. Gross, 89, a longtime resident of Carlsbad, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at the Carlsbad Medical Center after a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3301 S. Canal St. Elder Dale Kaylor will officiate. Daniel Burton Gross was born in Anawalt, W.Va., Dec. 6, 1923, to Floyd and Zollie (Spencer) Gross. He was employed as a coal miner in West Virginia for several years before moving to New Mexico. He was retired from Duval Potash.
Dan married Beulah Wyatt on Jan. 27, 1948, and she preceded him in death in 2007. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Floyd Gross Jr.; sister, Helen Stacey; and two grandsons: John and Michael Higginbotham.
He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Higginbotham of St. Albans, W.Va.; one brother, Herbert Gross of Sullivan, Mo.; three grandchildren: Jeanne McCoy of Ft. Jennings, Ohio, Daniel Higginbotham of Baltimore, Md., and David Higginbotham of Boston, Mass.; and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the congregation, neighbors and friends for all of the love and support shown to Dan.
