Dennis Scott Dowdy, 50, of Idaho Street, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Ratcliff, Texas. Dennis Scott Dowdy was born to Leonard I. and Pauline (Mericle) Dowdy on Jan. 22, 1962, in Carlsbad, N.M. He was raised and educated in Carlsbad. He and Julie Tanner were married in 1982.
Dennis lived in Crockett, Texas, for many years and worked as a driller in the oil field. He returned to Carlsbad two months ago to be near his children. He had a passion for riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, playing drums, watching old western movies and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by long time companion, Jannie File of Ratcliff, Texas; the mother of his children, Julie Tanner Pettes; sons: Jeremy and Leonard "Paul" Dowdy; daughters: Kendra Teel and Patricia "P.J." Barnes, all of Carlsbad; brothers: Stacey Dowdy of Crockett, Texas, Leonard "Ray" Dowdy of Kennard, Texas, and Milam Carol "MC" Dowdy of Groveton, Texas; sisters: Deborah Vick of Bristow, Okla., and Pam Bloom of Pflugerville, Texas; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
