Ernest Murphy Hayhurst, 63, of Black River Village Road, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 8) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Brother Marcus Bluth and Brother Randall Allen of the Pecos River Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Ernest Hayhurst was born to Murphy E. and Claramai (Rook) Hayhurst on Sept. 26, 1950, in Hollister, Calif. He grew up in Olansha, Calif., the second of six children and moved to Carlsbad, N.M. in 1971.
Ernest was always very close to his family and loved life. He helped operate the family ranch and as a young man backpacked over and thru 43 states. He loved and forgave everyone, and although not worn on his sleeve, his faith was very strong.
He is preceded in death by his father, sister Lavonne Beard Kasper and brother in law, James Lee Beard.
Ernest is survived by his mother; brothers: Jim Hayhurst and wife Louise of Jordan, Idaho, and Loren Hayhurst of Carlsbad; sisters: Missy Cox of Layton, Utah, and Julie Liston of Azle, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
