Juan Levario Macias, 80, of Quay Street, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, in El Paso, Texas. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday (Dec. 23) at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Valentine Jankowski OFM Conv., will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Santa Catarina Cemetery. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 22) at San Jose Catholic Church. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday at West Funeral Home. Juan Levario Macias was born in Terlingua, Texas, on April 24, 1933, to Benjamin and Nicolasa (Levario) Macias. He was raised and educated in Alpine, Texas.
He married Cesaria Yniguez in Alpine on Nov. 7, 1954. The couple moved to Carlsbad from Odessa in 1960. Juan worked as a miner at Kerr McGee for 24 years and retired in 1995. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. Juan was a loving husband and father to more than just his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters and two sons-in-law.
Juan is survived by his wife Cesaria Y. Macias; daughters: Alicia L. Macias, Carmen M. Cerna, Hermalinda M. Soto and Maria "Bobbie" F. Macias-Nicholas; sons: Ricardo Macias, Juan Jose Macias and Martin Yniguez-Macias; sister Rosura Jordan; brother Benjamin L. Macias Jr.; grandchildren: Tony M. Fuentes, Uriah Macias, Ruben M. Cerna III, Jamie M. Olguin, Mikayla M. Soto, Anisia M. Cerna, Juanito Andreas Macias-Moreno, Sara M. Olguin, Salomon M. Soto, Joshua Macias, Jacob Macias-Moreno, Sergio M. Soto and Estevan M. Soto and great-granddaughter Evolet Faith Fuentes.
Pallbearers will be Tony M. Fuentes, Uriah Macias, Ruben M. Cerna III, Juanito Andreas Macias-Moreno, Salomon M. Soto, Joshua Macias, Jacob Macias-Moreno, Sergio M. Soto and Estevan M. Soto.
Honorary Pallbearers are Ricardo Macias, Juan Jose Macias and Martin Yniguez-Macias.
