Louise Griffin Hemler, 93, of Cimarron Trail, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Carlsbad Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in the old section of Carlsbad Cemetery. Minister Don Gunderson of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Louise Griffin Hemler was born June 4, 1920, in Lincoln Parish, La., to Dr. William Perry Griffin and Ivey Anderson Griffin.
Mrs. Hemler was educated in Louisiana and New Mexico. She went to Louisiana Tech Middle School and then Louisiana Tech High School. Her family moved to Carlsbad in 1935. Mrs. Hemler then finished her high school education at Carlsbd High School.
In 1937, she married Albert Hemler. They had two sons, Cleve A. Hemler and James P. Hemler. Mr Hemler built and sold beautiful homes in the Carlsbad area. Mrs. Hemler taught piano lessons in Louisiana and was a music teacher in Carlsbad. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her husband owned and operated Hemler Family Furniture. They also owned and operated an apartment complex in Carlsbad.
The Hemler's were also very active in getting a Special Education program for the upper and lower grades in the Carlsbad Municipal Schools.
Mrs. Hemler was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hemler in 1993, her mother, father, three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her two sons of the family home
