Nicolas A. "Nico" Carrasco, 92, of South Ash Street, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Landsun Homes.

Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. today (June 26) at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM Conv., officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, N.M. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Nicolas A. "Nico" Carrasco was born March 5, 1921, in Barstow, Texas, to Natividad and Florencia (Alvarez) Carrasco. He married Elvira Carrasco in 1940, and they had 10 children. Nico served his country in the US Army during World War II. He began working in farm and ranch for several years and later went to work for the City of Carlsbad. Nico was working for Eddy County Road Department when he retired in 1985. He enjoyed welding, cooking and hunting during his retirement. Nico also loved the outdoors and singing. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Benito, Luis Roque, Gilly and Freddy Carrasco; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Rosalba Garrett of Carlsbad, N.M.; children: Frances Galindo and husband, Gilbert of Fontana, Calif., Robert Carrasco and wife, Mary of Carlsbad, N.M., Gloria Galindo and husband, Antonio of Ontario, Calif., Dora Howell and husband, Tom of Carlsbad, N.M., Benny Carrasco of Carlsbad, N.M., and Nick Carrasco Jr. and wife, Misty of Carlsbad, N.M.; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Antonio Galindo, Nick Carrasco Jr., Benny Carrasco, Israel Howell, Nicky Doubrava and Steven Howell; and honorary pallbearers are Tom Howell and Shane Doubrava. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
