Joe R. Franco, 72, of Apple Street, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 1) at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Valentine Jankowski OFM Conv., will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (new section). Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday (Jan. 31) at San Jose Catholic Church. Joe Rodriguez Franco was born in Carlsbad on Feb. 10, 1941, to Julio G. and Pilar Rodriguez Franco. He was raised and educated in Carlsbad where he graduated from Carlsbad High School. He retired from Eddy County Road department where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. Joe was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. He loved to have cook outs with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joe is survived by his son, Jesse Franco of Carlsbad, daughters: Evelyn Granger of Lubbock, Texas, Emma Franco of Carlsbad and Elizabeth Quintana and husband Paul of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters; Minnie Arenivas and husband Carlos of Artesia, N.M., and Cindy Rodriguez of Alamogordo, N.M., as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
