Marcus Randall "Mark" Matta Obituary
Marcus "Mark" Randall Matta was born in Carlsbad on Christmas Day, December 25, 1958. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1977. He continued to live and work in Carlsbad until his death on February 26, 2014.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother and father, Tony and Katy (Hernandez) Matta. He is remembered by his sisters Anna Pearson (husband Tony) and Gloria Keever (husband Richard). Nieces Kathleen Whalen (husband Michael), Stephanie Ortiz, and Suzanne Valenzuela and Nephew Kevin Pearson. Grand nieces and nephews Nathaniel and Zachary Ortiz, Meredith and Annemaire Whalen, Sevastian Valenzuela and Andrea Pearson and special friend Dwynna Nabors-Lily.
Family and friends will remember Mark as a kind and caring person. Mark was an excellent fisherman and hunter. He was most happy when he was on the Pecos River or on a boat fishing in northern New Mexico. He always came home with a big catch of fish and call and let us know to expect a big fish fry next time we got together. Mark was a self-taught guitar player and enjoyed playing for family and friends.
We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Mark and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask to please keep Mark in your thoughts and prayers. Mark, you are at peace now. May God bless and keep you with him. You will never be forgotten and forever loved.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of West Funeral Home. Mark's ashes will be buried with his mother and father in Carlsbad. A memorial service is pending and will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com
