Freddie Sillas, 51, of North Mesa Street, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday (Mar. 31) at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Valentine Jankowski OFM Conv., will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Santa Catarina Cemetery. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at San Jose Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at San Jose Catholic Church. Freddie Sillas was born in Carlsbad on December 28, 1962, to Ralph and Antonia (Rascon) Sillas Sr. He was self-employed as a painter and painted many of the graphics on the business windows around town. He enjoyed dancing and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church and a Die hard Dallas Cowboys fan. Freddie was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ralph Sillas Jr., Randy and Tom Torrez.
He is survived by his daughter Mariah Dutchover Sillas of Carlsbad; sisters: Yvonne Rodriguez of Carlsbad and Sandra Silva of Lubbock, Texas; brother, Jesse Torrez of Espanola, N.M.; nieces and nephews: Brandon, Jory, Dominic and Katlyn Rodriguez, Valen Martinez, Brandi Silva, Jesse, Tyler, Jace and Kaley Torrez; great-nieces and nephews: Jaivry, Myammee and Dominic Rodriguez, Brook Torrez, Mela Silva and Gracelyn Martinez.
