Carol J. (Reid) Hickson was born to Albert and Claudia Jane (Tracy) Reid on August 22, 1932, in San Diego, Calif. She was raised and educated in southern California and held an Associates of Arts Degree.
Carol and Bob L. Hickson married in Santa Ana, Calif., in 1954 and moved to Dexter, NM. When Bob became a golf professional, they operated country clubs in Littlefield and Dumas, Texas, before residing in Carlsbad from 1966 until 1978 where they operated the golf course and club house at Riverside Country Club. Regardless of where they resided, Bob and Carol made a "dynamic duo" operating the golf course as if they owned it. They had the chance to operate a golf course as if they owned it, when they moved to Ruidoso, N.M., and purchased Cree Meadows Country Club. After selling Cree Meadows, they moved to Arizona City, Ariz., and once again ran the course as a husband and wife team. When this assignment was complete, they returned to Carlsbad to retire and be close to their two eldest daughters, families and grandchildren.
Carol liked cooking, fishing and playing cards. She was known by her sons-in- law as the best "hush puppy" cook ever. Carol was also an avid golfer and was runner up at the NM State Ladies Amateur Golf Tournament and won Country Club golf championships at three separate clubs including Riverside Country Club where she was the winner seven separate times.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Hickson; daughters: Karen and husband Terry Patterson, Peggy and husband Johnny Marrs, all of Carlsbad, Dr. Charlene Hickson and husband, Dr. Lance Farnworth of Pueblo, Colo.; sisters: Phylis and Judy Reid both of Parker, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Riverside Country Club Junior Golf Program.
