Bill Wheeler, 81, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Carlsbad Medical Center. Funeral service will held at 10 a.m. Thursday (Apr. 17) at the West Funeral Home Chapel with Retired Rev. Dean McAllister officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Eddy Lodge No. 21 AF&AM and Military Honors being performed by the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Wednesday (Apr.16) at West Funeral Home. Masonic lodge of sorrow will convene at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at Eddy Lodge No. 21, 513 N. Canyon Street. William A. (Bill) Wheeler was born October 16, 1932, to William Axtel and Caroline (Kircher) Wheeler in Carlsbad, N.M. He graduated from Carlsbad High School and attended New Mexico State University. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
Bill was associated with Budwine Electric for over 50 years. He was a lifetime member of Carlsbad Elk's Lodge No. 1558, Masonic Lodge AF&AM No. 21 and Eddy County Shriners Club. Bill loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carol Eugene Wheeler. Bill is survived by his wife June Wheeler, step-son, Gary Corzine (Mary) and grandson, Steve Cooper; brother, Everett Wheeler, and sister, Phyllis Marie Western, all of Carlsbad and two great-granddaughters of Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
