Mass of Christian burial for Gilbert Juarez will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday (Apr. 24) at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski OFM Conv., officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (new section). Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at San Jose Catholic Church. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at San Jose Catholic Church. Gilbert Manuel Juarez, 66, was born June 5, 1947, in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Julio and Teresa (Martinez) Juarez. Mr. Juarez entered eternal rest on April 21, 2014, in Carlsbad following an extended illness.
Mr. Juarez was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved western movies, enjoyed professional bull riding and team roping, and was inspired by his favorite cooking show, Pit Masters, to dream of becoming a professional barbeque caterer. He was an accomplished welder and fabricator. He retired from IMC Potash after more than 30 years of employment.
Mr. Juarez was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Erminia, of the family home, sons Bryan (Christine) Juarez, Christopher (Teresa) Juarez and stepdaughter Emily (Danny) Brito; stepchildren Ernie Rodriguez, Elaine Martinez and Eugene (Melissa) Rodriguez; grandchildren Rory Juarez and Alicia Juarez; siblings Adelina (Juan) Garcia, Barbara (Ricardo) Gonzales, Amelia Moreno and Toby (Glenda) Juarez. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Pallbearers will be Ben Vasquez, Jeremy Childress, Bill Pierce, Steven Moreno, Danny Brito Sr., Leroy Jimenez and Ricardo Gonzales. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bryan Juarez, Rory Juarez, Chris Juarez and Manuel Najera.
