Wanda M. Barron, 79, of Milliron Road, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014, at Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday (May 23) at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Valentine Jankowski OFM Conv., will be the celebrant. Cremation will follow with private interment at a later date. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Thursday at West Funeral Home. Vigil will be held with Rosary Recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at San Jose Catholic Church. Services are entrusted to West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com
Wanda Montoya Barron was born October 28, 1934, in Artesia, New Mexico to Julian P. and Pablita (Torrez) Montoya. The family moved to Carlsbad when she was a young girl and she grew up here attending Carlsbad schools.
Wanda had numerous jobs including the Motel Stevens where she worked for several years in the kitchen and also at Lakeview Christian Home as a nurse's aide.
She attended church at both Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Loving and San Jose Catholic Church in Carlsbad. She enjoyed Bible Study, taking care of grandchildren, watching "Bonanza" and "Gilligan's Island" and listening to music.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Pedro L. Barron, both parents; brothers: Paul and Elias Montoya; sisters: Juanita Pelaiz, Feliz Lara, Josephina Aguilar, Ginoveva Montoya and Martha Gomez Hale.
She is survived by her sons: Rojelio "Rocky" Jimenez and wife, Sylvia of Carlsbad and Alfredo Jimenez of Santa Fe, NM; daughter, Rose Ann Jimenez of Carlsbad; brother, David Montoya and sister, Esther Aguilar; grandchildren: Melissa Garcia and husband Julian, Jolene Gonzalez and husband Jorge, Hector Jimenez and wife Ellen and Sophia Jimenez; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jorge and Jorge Gonzalez, Jr., Hector Jimenez, Jessie Guitierrez, Dario Gonzalez, Usvaldo and David Anthony Montoya and Julian Garcia.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hector and Abel Montoya, Nathaniel Gonzalez, Billy Lara, Raymond Gomez and Jessie Martinez.
