Justo Yanez, 79, of West Riverside Drive, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday (May 31) at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Valentine Jankowski OFM Conv., will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (new section). Military honors will be performed by the Carlsbad Veteran's Honor Guard. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at San Jose Catholic Church. Justo D. Yanez was born to Pablo and Victoriana (Dominguez) Yanez on September 7, 1934 in Carlsbad. He served in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. Justo and Lucy (Munoz) Yanez were married February 2, 1961, in Carlsbad. He worked for Sear's and Hall Machine and Welding prior to becoming co-owner of Lucy's Restaurant with his wife in 1974.
Justo was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Caveman Football fan and was also a loving man who always put his children and grandchildren first. He taught them all the definition of unconditional love.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Frank Yanez and sister, Mickey Methola and favorite dog, Silvery.
Justo is survived by his wife Lucy and children: Priscilla Martinez and Joe Castillo of Carlsbad, Viola "Lolli" French of Albuquerque, Laurie Wright of Austin, Texas, Michael Yanez and Alie Byer of Carlsbad and LaFonda White of Midland, Texas; sisters: Mary Rodriguez of Albuquerque and Helen Molinar of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Rudy Munoz, Patrick Methola, Ryan French-Yanez, Justin Yanez, Frank Yanez, Jr. and Gabriel Rubio. Honorary Pallbearers are Josh Miller, David Davis and the loyal staff and patrons of Lucy's Restaurant.
