Jim B. Rucker, 82, of Carlsbad, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Landsun Health Service Center. Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (June 8) at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating. Jamie "Jim" Blake Rucker was born to the late John C. and Mabel (Speer) Rucker on May 1, 1931, in Harlingen, Texas.
He graduated from high school in Pryor, Oklahoma, in 1948.
In 1953, Jim earned a BS in Commerce (with an emphasis in Marketing) from Oklahoma A & M University, now named Oklahoma State University.
He married the late Mary Ann Adams in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on April 8, 1955. They lived together in Florida where he served in the US Air Force and Oklahoma before settling in Carlsbad in 1958.
Jim was an avid music lover and particularly enjoyed opera and classical music, including playing piano himself. He loved dogs - including his Wheaton Terrier, Roxie, and many Collies that he bred and showed. He loved bridge and achieved a Life Master designation. Jim was a member of the Carlsbad Community Theatre and a member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by sons: Dave Rucker of Parkland, FL and Kevin Rucker of Coppell, TX; sister, Sue Webb of Lubbock, TX and five grandchildren.
