Howard E. Plum Obituary
Howard Plum, 90, of West Texas Street, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Tex.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at Jesus Name Tabernacle, 510 S. Elm Street, with Pastor Ronald McDuff officiating.  Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (old section) with Military Honors being performed by the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard.  Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at West Funeral Home.  Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com
Howard E. Plum was born in Grafton, West Virginia on June 1, 1924 to Thomas E. and Alice (Wilmoth) Plum. At age 16 he joined the C.C.C. and served in Boulder City, Nevada with Company 573.

Howard married Pearl Virginia Bittinger of Morgantown, West Virginia on April 5, 1943. In August of 1943 he entered the Military Service and received training at Camp Adair, Oregon, with the 70th Infantry Divisions, going overseas with the 91st Division in WWII.

While serving in Europe he received E.T.O. Ribbon, 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Presidential Citation, Infantry Combat Badge as well as awards for Outstanding Performance, in Italy. After being discharged from the Military, he spent several years in the Coal Mines of West Virginia. Howard moved the family to Carlsbad, NM in 1958. He was employed with National Potash Co., for 27 years working underground and surface department and as refinery foreman the last 7-1/2 years, until his retirement in 1982. He spent an additional three years, retrieving supplies as hoist man to ship potash to Indonesia, for Freeport MacMoran.

He married Geneva Walls Wagner on August 9, 1970.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and two sisters; first wife, Pearl Plum in 1969; second wife, Geneva Plum in 2003 and granddaughter, Tammy Sue Cranfill in 2007.
Howard is survived by his daughter Janet L. Dewey (John) of Clovis, NM, and son Carl Edward Plum of Carlsbad NM; granddaughters: Charmayne A. Herrington and Debra J. Bunker (Ed), all of Clovis, NM; grandson Charles A. Fry (April) of Virginia; great-grandchildren: Crysta A. Herrington (Travis), Angel Fry and Ashley Fry, Megan Gutierrez and her three children and Daniel D. Stansberry and Jonathon Gavlik; great-great-grandchildren: Draven R. McAlister, Alana Fry and J'Leigh Williams; Brothers, Elmer Plum of Maison Town, PA and Harry Plum (Shirley) of Hibbs, PA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are John Dewey, Thomas Ellis, Jack Campbell, Eddie Plum, Derrick and Kyle McKnight. Honorary Pallbearers are Nash Armendarez and Travis McAlister.
