Mass of Christian Burial for Ernesto "Duke" Rodriguez will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM Conv., officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Catarina Cemetery. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. today (Aug. 8) at San Jose Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at San Jose Catholic Church. Ernesto "Duke" Duran Rodriguez was born to Cleto and Maria (Duran) Rodriguez on April 28, 1949, and was called home by our Lord Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.
Ernesto attended school in Malaga and grew up there and the surrounding area. He married Erminia Estrada in 1972 in Loving, N.M., where they made their home for many years before relocating to Cortez, Colo.
He was the proud father of four children: Emily (Danny) Brito, Ernesto Rodriguez Jr., Eugene (Melissa) Rodriguez and Elaine (Reinaldo) Martinez. Ernesto and Erminia later divorced but remained friends to the end. Ernesto had many interests, but among his favorites were spending time with his family and friends, outdoor activities and his beloved pets.
He will be deeply missed and remembered lovingly and fondly.
Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers. He is survived by his children; brother, Eugene (Romy) Rodriguez; sisters: Lasara Palma and Beatrice (Daniel) Contreras; sister-in-law, Carmen Rodriguez; and lifelong best friend, Jesus "Chuy" DeAvila; grandchildren: Melanie, Alexus and Danny Jr. Brito, Tyler and Savahnah Rodriguez, Eugenia Rodriguez, Felix, Esiah, Genevie, Andrew and Santana Martinez; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers will be his sons: Ernesto Jr. and Eugene, Jesus DeAvila Jr., Danny Rodriguez, Harvey Rodriguez, Danny Brito, Desiderio Yanez, Danny Contreras, Eric Palma and Reinaldo Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren.
