Breco Robert Ridgway Jr., 72, of Mission Avenue, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at the West Funeral Home Chapel. Associate Pastor Kevin Pence of First Baptist Church and Chaplain Andy Harris of Homecare Connection and Hospice will officiate. Interment will follow in the new section of Carlsbad Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. up to service time Monday at West Funeral Home. Breco Robert Ridgway, Jr. was born to Breco R. and Juanita (Grube) Ridgway, Sr. on Nov. 17, 1940, in Brownfield, Texas. He moved to Carlsbad as a young boy and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1960.
Breco and Linda Kay Hawkins Ridgway were married on Jan. 24, 1964, at First Baptist Church in Carlsbad. He served in the United States Air Force from 1963 until 1967.
The Ridgways made their home in Green River, Wyo. for many years. While there he was employed by Allied Chemical and Texas Gulf and owned and operated Pard's Café, as well. After returning to Carlsbad in 1989, he was employed at Intrepid Potash until his retirement.
Breco was a member of Carlsbad Automotive Restoration Society; B.P.O. Elks No. 1558 and is a past president of the Green River Lion's Club. He enjoyed old cars and loved spending time with family and listening to Blue Grass music.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father and one brother, Kemp Ridgway.
Breco is survived by his wife Linda and son Matthew and wife Lori Ridgway, all of Carlsbad; daughters: Beverly and husband Harold Carmody of Dunlap, Tenn., Robin and husband Ron Kizzire of Green River, Wyo.; and Heather and husband Michael Luna of El Paso, Texas; sister Gayle and husband Carl York of Carlsbad, grandchildren: Colton, Shelby and Garett Ridgway, Taylor Ridgway Luna, Christian, Elijah and Katelyn Luna, Chase Cochrun, Chelsy Kizzire, Chanelle Anglesey, Shonna McSharry and Jami Freeman, as well as seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chase Cochrun, Taylor R. and Christian Luna, Colton and Garett Ridgway, Cole and Travis Kessler and Carl York.
Honorary Pallbearers are Darrell Hjeltness, M.A. Barnes, Michael Luna, Ronald Kizzire, Alfonzo Luna, Richard Montgomery and Harold Carmody.
