Ellen Victoria Pirnie, 86, of Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of Berwyn, passed away July 12, 2017 after her second battle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 10, 1930 in Snyder, Colo., to William and Rosella Houston. She was the oldest of four children. Ellen attended Morgan Elementary and Hill Rose High School, graduating in 1947. During her school years Ellen was active in a local 4-H Club.
In 1950 she married Rex McCullough. They had five children, Rex Jr. , Barb, Cheryl, Joleen, and Rachel. While Rex served in the Marines the young family lived in California, but returned to Brush, Colo., after his service ended.
In 1956 the family moved to the farm south of Berwyn, where they lived for 21 years. Ellen helped begin the Happy Hollow 4-H Club where she served as a leader for fifteen years.
Ellen married Edwin Pirnie in 1986. The couple lived on Edwin's wheat farm near Briggsdale, Colo. Ellen enjoyed going to garage sales and auctions, as well as quilting.
She is survived by her four daughters, Barb and Tom Strombeck of Westville, Okla.; Cheryl Hilton of Kearney; Joleen Schnieder of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and Rachel and Guy Bitz, of Ravanna. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kylee Derr, of Denver, Colo.: Caitlin Derr of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Amanda Berry of Lexington; Jesse Hilton of Kearney; Danie Hilton of Shelton; Cory Schnieder of Ft. Collins, Colo.; Jamie Buckner of Ft. Collins, Colo.; Victoria Bitz, Bailey Bitz and Guy Bitz II of Ravanna; and ten great grand children.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Rosella; brother, Homer; sisters Agnes and Mildred; and son, Rex Jr.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials may be made for Homeward Trails Bible Camp in Mason City.

My condolences to the family. I know you will miss her. I did not know her well but I know she was loved by all. But she is out of pain and you will see her again.
