Joan (Gettel) Grein(1932 - 2013)

Joan Grein, 80, of Brighton, passed away Jan. 19, 2013, in Wheat Ridge. She was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Brighton, to Walter and Gertrude Gettel. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1950. She married Ivan Grein June 19, 1955, in Brighton.
Joan was a lifetime resident of Brighton. She was born and raised and passed away living on the same piece of property on CR2 and 21st Avenue. Joan attended school, was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and later became a volunteer at the Church and School.
She loved to travel and went on numerous trips with her husband, Ivan, for the Agriculture Board, as well assisting in doing agriculture work in classrooms all over Colorado. Joan was a very family oriented woman and cherished every moment with the family. She enjoyed making afghans, canning and working in her garden, especially her flower garden. She loved the holidays, especially Fourth of July and Christmas. She loved playing cards with her neighbors as well as her Sunday morning coffee. Joan was a breast cancer survivor for 20 years.
Joan is survived by her husband, Ivan, of 57 years of Brighton; three sons, Kevin (Linda) Grein; Douglas (Noel) Grein and Walter Grein, all of Brighton; a sister, Marilyn Grein (Eldor), of Brighton; five grandchildren, Sara, Mysti, Steven, Alana and Cody; five great-grandchildren, Raven, Serenity, Zachary, Jacob and Alex; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gregory, in 1974; two brothers, Donald and Walter, in 1947; a sister, Marlene Burkhardt, in 1982; a grandson, Joseph, in 2009; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylen, in 2000.
Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home. Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brighton.
