Clarice Cadman Platt Burns, 85, a resident of the Kentontown area, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Robertson County Health Care Facility following a brief illness.
She was a native of Buena Vista, Harrison County, the daughter of the late Elmer and Iva Harney Platt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Marvin Stewart Burns, a brother, R. Hildreth Platt, five sisters, Clara Allen Platt, Irene Wallingford Platt Palmer, Lucille Thompson Platt, Mabel Lee Platt Heinrichs, and Eloise Platt Sparks, and two nephews, Terry Heinrichs and Jerry Heinrichs.
Survivors include: nieces and nephews, Barbara Vaughn, Judy Anness, Iva Joyce Rainey, Harrison County, Pinkie Moore, New Bern, N.C., Lowell Platt, Maineville, Ohio, Lynden Platt, Harrison County, Phil Heinrichs, Lexington, Charles Sparks, Medina, Ohio and Thomas Sparks, Lexington, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was a member of Kentontown Christian Church, a homemaker for many years, she often said that she fed several generations of farmhands lunchtime meals on the Burns farm. Her cooking was renown to all, especially her fried chicken, homemade donuts, and her Christmas candies and cakes. Aunt Clarice, or Aunt Cadman as she was known by others, raised sheep, cattle, and chickens, and grew a full vegetable garden.
She enjoyed her flower garden, sewing, reading. knitting, crochet work, and was also an avid bird watcher. She leaves behind many good friends, family, and neighbors to cherish their memories of her kindness and humor.
Graveside services will be Friday, Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Kentontown Cemetery, by Bro. Douglas Wright. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kentontown Cemetery or the charity of your choice. Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
