Nancy Clarahan Owen(1941 - 2013)

Nancy Clarahan Owen, 71, Cynthiana, Ky., died Feb. 16, 2013 while visiting Denver, Colo.
She was born on July 10, 1941 to Joseph and Sara Clarahan in Harper, Kan.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy and Sarah Elizabeth (Beth), and three brothers, Leo, Roderick, and William.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 42 years, Robert Owen; two daughters, Jennifer Chowning (Alex) Cumming of Washington, DC, and Mary Sara (Elia) Pecorari of Southern France; one grandson, Leo Owen Pecorari; one step-daughter, Betsy Owen Khamdiev (Sergei) of Chicago; two sisters, Patricia (Harold) Zebert of Bothell, Wash. and Kathryn (Rankin) Griesinger of Ojai, Calif.; and 11 nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and St. Louis University and attended the University of Mexico City. Began her career as an educator in several school systems before teaching in the Department of Defense school system. She actively supported her husband's 28 year military career, while devotedly raising her daughters, moving 14 times, and mentoring the young military wives under his command. After her children were grown, she pursued a personal passion into a new career in interior design. She later transitioned back to the Defense world as a National Security Professional during the height of the Cold War. She held the highest level clearances on the most sensitive programs.
Upon retiring, she and her husband moved to his hometown of Cynthiana, Ky. She became active in community support serving on the Maysville Community and Technical College Scholarship Committee and the Harrison County Humane Society. She also enjoyed participating in several local clubs.
A Memorial Mass honoring Nancy's life is planned for March 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, Cynthiana. She will be interred later at a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to the First Chance Scholarship Fund of Maysville Community and Technical College, Licking Valley Campus, attn: Bruce Florence, 319 Webster Ave., Cynthiana, KY 41031.
Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
