(Anna) Elizabeth Hill Bailey, widow of John Arch Bailey, Jr., died Sunday June 9, 2013, at age 95. She was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Anna Elizabeth "Lizzy" Smith Hill.
The Guest Book is expired.
Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Indian Creek Christian Church and a Kentucky Colonel recipient.
She spent her formative years in the Millersburg area and graduated from the old Bourbon County High School (Millersburg, Ky.) in 1935 and the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing in 1938.
In the late 1940s, she began her association with Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH). She first served as a staff nurse. In 1950, she became the Superintendent of Nurses. She said that she would serve as the Administrator on an interim basis until the board found a new administrator. She served as HMH Administrator until 1979.
She was instrumental in providing the first blood bank for the residents of Harrison County and was a driving force to relocate HMH to its current location and to gain its accreditation by The Joint Commission.
After Mrs. Bailey left HMH, she served as Interim Administrator of the Clark County Hospital for five months during 1980.
She also served her community and state by working on the Harrison County/WEDCO District Board of Health, Harrison County Senior Citizens Board, Kentucky Board of Licensure for Nursing Home Administrators, Kentucky Health and Health Facilities Certificate of Need and Licensure Board, and the Kentucky Hospital Association Board.
In 1968, Mrs. Bailey was named Cynthiana's Woman of the Year and, in 2008, HMH honored her by naming part of its new addition the Elizabeth H. Bailey Women's Health Center.
She was preceded in death by her four siblings: Thelma Price-Crotty (Ashland), Ruby Ross (Ashland), Jacqueline Berry (Paris), and C. Todd Hill (Millersburg).
