Charles William Feix, 77, Cynthiana, Ky., died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Cedar Ridge Health Campus.
He was born in Cynthiana, Ky., June 30, 1936, to the late Charles Pater ""Tiny"" and Ruth Peddicord Feix. He loved special time with his grandchildren, cooking, gardening, fishing and hunting, anything to do with aviation, genealogy, was an avid reader and enjoyed going to Europe to visit his French cousins.
He was a member of Cynthiana Presbyterian Church and a retired air traffic controller after 26 years of service with the Federal Aviation Administration. He was an honorably discharged Air Force veteran, had a passion of service for his community and served on many boards to include the library board for 19 years, 15 of those as chairman; the Cynthiana-Berry-Harrison County P & Z board for 12 years, 10 as chairman; four years on the Cynthiana/Harrison County Airport Board; two years on the Harrison County Selective Service Board; six years on the appeals board of the Kentucky Selective Service; eight years on the Taste of Harrison County committee, co-founder and chairman or co-chairman for five years; 12 years on the Battle Grove Cemetery Board, 10 as chairman; six years on the Harrison County Cemetery Board, all six as chairman; eight years on the Veterans' Day Committee; and co-founder of the Harrison County Historical Society, chairman for the first five years. He was instrumental in the building of the new Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library and the community room at the library is named for him.
His sister Mary Ruth Morris preceded him in death.
Survivors include: his wife, Susan Russell Feix; two daughters, Mary Ware (Troy) Bradford and Beth (Dan) McKeaney; three step children, Sam (Sheila) Arnold IV, Russ (Crystle) Arnold and Anne Wishart Arnold (R.J.) Ratliff; one sister, Betty Jean Gray (Bobby) Haviland; four grandchildren, Ashley, Austin and Adam Bradford and Megan Mattson; four step grandchildren, Catron, Campbell and John Russell Arnold and Keagan Poole; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11:30 a.m. at Cynthiana Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Patrick Laney, with burial in Battle Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Kentucky Room at Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library.
Pallbearers are Troy Bradford, Dan McKeaney, Fred Morris, Kevin Wright, James Carl Gray, Mike Linville, Sam Arnold IV, Russ Arnold, R.J. Ratliff.
