Ellis Gentry, 88, Berry, Ky., died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at his home after an extended illness.
He was born in Lee County, Ky., on Feb. 10, 1924, a son of the late Oscar and Viola Morgan Gentry. He was a member of the Church of God, a retired employee of L.E. Burgen Blacktop Co., and a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Evans Gentry on Aug. 12, 2006; a son, Leonard Gentry; a daughter, Diane Gentry; a grandson, Billy Edward Gentry; four brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include: six sons, Charles and Darrell Gentry, both of Beattyville, Ky., Dale, Mark, Mike and Glen Gentry, all of Berry; three daughters, Darlene Moore and Maggie Gentry, both of Berry, and Teresa Beach of Paris, Ky.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a special dog Poo-Poo.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, Ky., with Keith Mitchell officiating. Interment with full military honors by the Hardin-Browning Post #109 took place in the Morgan Cemetery, Pendleton County.
Memorials are suggested to Boyd United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Bluegrass or the charity of choice.
