Freddie Walker Whitson, age 83, Cynthiana, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 at his residence. Born in Harrison County on Aug. 31, 1932, to the late Charles Vernard and Anna Elizabeth Mallory Whitson, he was a farmer, a United States Korean War Navy veteran, an outdoorsman, a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church, a 46-year member of Cynthiana Elks Lodge #438 and a businessman, Whitson's Meat Processing and Whitson's Burley Tobacco Dolls. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Charles Whitson, Eddie Whitson, Kenneth Whitson, Jeryl Whitson and Ronnie Whitson; a sister, Betty Courtney and two grandchildren, Lisa Fryman and Logan Fryman.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maxine Brady Whitson; two sons, Freddie (Faye) Whitson, Jr., Cynthiana and Carl Vernard (Rhonda) Whitson, Nicholas County; three daughters, Linda (Michael) Beckett, Cynthiana, Freda Saunders, Carlisle and Betty "Penny" (David) Richardson, Nicholas County; a brother, Ray (Linda) Whitson, Harrison County; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and special friends, Jackie Morris, Steve Judy and the Biancke's staff.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home by Rev. John Chamberlin. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Lynn Beckett, Gayle Ross Beckett, Seth Saunders, Jeremy Whitson, David Whitson and Brady Saunders. Honorary pallbearers were Jackie Morris, Dr. Joe Nichols, Brian Allison and Dr. Stephen Besson.
