Harold R. Mattox, 80, widower of Sue Spaldin Mattox, passed from this life Friday, July 26, 2013 at Johnson Mather's Nursing Home in Carlisle.
He was born to the late Vaughn Mattox and Mildred Mattox Green in Nicholas County on Aug. 20, 1932.
He was an honorable discharged veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean War, served as commander of the honor guard for many years for Lexington VFW Post 680, and after service he worked 38 years for Lexington Transit Authority. He and Sue retired to Somerset and Lake Cumberland. Having been raised in Saltwell, he is of Methodist faith and was a Kentucky Colonel bestoed by Gov. Paul Patton.
Survivors include: a brother, R.J. (Phyllis) Mattox, Carlisle; a step-daughter, Jackie (Larry) Ginter, Lexington; two step-grandsons, Wesley and David Ginter of Lexington; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and lifetime friends, Layne and Gary Hollar.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 30 at Ware Funeral Home. A graveside service followed at Flatwood Cemetery in Waco, Ky.
