James E. Haggard, 89, Cynthiana, Ky., died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at the Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Ky.
He was born May 15, 1924 in Harrison County, Ky., son of the late Sim Dudley and Edith Haggard. He was a 1943 graduate of Renaker High School, a retired Harrison County Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff, a car salesman for Harrison Motor and former owner of The Hunter Inn, and was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Ruth Roberts Haggard in 1998.
He was an honorably discharged veteran of World War II, having served in the Army/Air Corp and was a German War Camp POW, and was a member of the Frankfort VFW Post 4075.
Survivors include: his son, Hanson D. (Holly) Haggard, New Salisbury, Ind.; one sister, Vivian Pollard, Cynthiana; two grandchildren, Cameron Arbuckle and Troy (Alison) Haggard; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan and Matthew Arbuckle and Linus Haggard.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 18 at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery with Military Honors.
