James Edward McCoy, 90, Chicago, Ill., died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017.
James was born March 4, 1927 in Cynthiana, Ky. to the late Jesse McCoy Sr. and Frances (nee Diltz) McCoy and was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Martha (nee Ruth) McCoy and his three siblings, Melvin D. McCoy, Velma (nee McCoy) Thomas and Jesse McCoy Jr.
James is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, being honorably discharged in 1947. After the Army, he relocated to Chicago during the Great Migration and worked for the United States Postal System and the Chicago Public School System, retiring from both.
He is survived by his children, Rhonda (Walter) Michalski, Alexis D. McCoy and Derek J. McCoy; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His oldest daughter Pamela (nee McCoy) Feaster preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 26 at Cage Memorial Chapel from 12-7 p.m. (CST) with funeral services Friday, Oct 27 at Shiloh SDA Church from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. (CST) with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery, with full military honors; all located in Chicago.
