Joanne A. McCarty, 82, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Aug. 8, 2016.
Joanne was born March 4, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of the late George and Ida Mae Jordan Albright.
She was a graduate of the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, and later obtained a degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University. Joanne was a registered nurse and was the Health Career Instructor from 1973-1988 at the Harrison County Vocational School. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, teaching CPR and first aid, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Her greatest love was being a mom, grandmother and great-grandmother to her children.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles C. McCarty Jr., two sisters and one brother.
Survivors include: one son, Nick (Leslie) McCarty, Cynthiana; three daughters, Melissa (Dennis) Beckett, Bracken County, Melinda "MiMi" McCarty, Nashville, and Mary McCarty Scott, Cynthiana; two brothers, George (Lana) Albright, Cinncinati, Ohio, and Jerry (Judy) Albright, Pittsburgh, Penn.; sister-in-law, Tillie Jessel, London, England; five grandchildren, Joseph (Courtney) Beckett, James (Monica) Beckett, Courtney Scott, Nicholas and Matthew McCarty; three great-grandchildren, Macy, Harper and Hudson Beckett; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, officiated by the Dr. Ted Beam and the Rev. Esther M. Sapp. Burial will follow the service in Battle Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rachel Harper and Hospice of the Bluegrass for the excellent care given to Joanne during her illness.
Pallbearers are: Joseph and James Beckett, Nicholas and Matthew McCarty, Courtney Scott, Joe Guy, John and Andrew Albright.
