John Francis "Jack" McCloskey, 84, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away Oct. 6, 2015, after a long courageous battle with congestive heart failure. Born in Wappingers Falls, New York, on April 12, 1931, he was raised by his mother Mary McCloskey, along with his aunt and uncle, Vera and John Lowery, after the passing of his father when Jack was six months old. He graduated from Wappingers Falls High School in 1949 and was president of his senior class.
He began his 40-year career at IBM after graduation and was a proud member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 through 1954.
On June 1, 1952 he married the love of his life, Margaret "Peggy" Millham, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in New Paltz, New York. They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage and every St. Patrick's Day celebrated the anniversary of their first date with Jack presenting Peggy a single green carnation, never missing the occasion in 65 years.
Jack graduated from Ulster Community College Stone Ridge, NY, served on the planning and adjustment boards for New Paltz, served as an usher at St. Josephs Catholic Church, New Paltz, NY, where he and his family resided for over 30 years.
After retirement from IBM, he began his second career with Data Med Software in Boca Raton, Florida, as the vice president of Marketing and Development. His hobbies included researching ancestry and he spent many hours on the computer compiling his family tree. He also treasured his time with his family and loved watching the Miami Dolphins play football.
Survivors include: his wife Margaret McCloskey, Winter Haven Florida; daughters, Peggy McCloskey, Cynthiana, Maureen (Arnie) Panci, Winter Haven, Mary (Herb) Norbom, Cynthiana; a son, John E. McCloskey of Sylvania, Ohio; grandchildren, Ryan H. (Cinnamon) McCloskey, Wilmington, Deleware, Caitlyn, Cassandra, John Thomas McCloskey, of Sylvania; sister-in-law, Sally McCloskey, Fishkill, NY; brothers-in-law, George Millham, Lake George, NY, Robert Millham (Rosemary) Corinth, NY, Jack Keeley, Marsten Mills, MA; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Awaiting Jack in heaven are his parents, Mary and Joseph McCloskey, his aunt and uncle, Vera and John Lowery, brother, Joseph McCloskey, his mother- and father-in-law, Irving and Margaret Millham, sisters-in-law Patricia Keeley, and Betty Millham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday at Ware Funeral Home by Rev. Douglas Lauer with visitation at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Edward Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the . Some of Jack's favorite charities were the Flora Shropshire Animal Shelter, Cynthiana, Down's Syndrome Buddy Walk, Sylvania, Ohio, and Disabled Veterans Association.
