Captain John William Philpot II, 71, Cynthiana, died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Baptist Health in Lexington.

He was born in Harrison County, May 5, 1942 to the late John William and Mary Ann Howard Philpot. He was a 24 year veteran police officer for the Cynthiana Police Department, where he retired as captain and a member of the FOP Thoroughbred Lodge #38.
He was preceded in death by a stillborn son, David Lee Philpot; four brothers, Charles, Lawrence, Howard and Warren Philpot; and a sister, Leona Whitaker.
He is survived by his wife, Stella Mae Grubbs Philpot; a son, John (Lisa Ann) Philpot III, Cynthiana; a daughter, Charlene (Gene) Fuller, Cynthiana; a brother, James Philpot, Cynthiana; a sister, Carolyn (Kelly) Grubbs, Cynthiana; four grandchildren, J.W. Philpot IV, Travis Philpot, Stephanie (Steven Travis) Simpson and Ashton (Zack Eckler) Fuller; three great-grandchildren, Sophie Renae Simpson, Travis Chase Simpson and Alexis Jayden Philpot; and a special friend, Jane Poindexter.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 17 at Ware Funeral Home by Bro. Jerry Watkins. Burial was in Pythian Grove Cemetery.
