Johnnie Louise Cook Arnold, 86, born Nov. 14, 1928 a daughter of the late Charles W. and Mary Louise Northcutt Cook, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Johnnie grew up in Cynthiana and was a 1946 graduate of Cynthiana High School. On June 16, 1946, she married Sam W. Arnold Jr., was a homemaker and attended the University of Kentucky where she graduated cum laude in 1972 with a degree in elementary education and soon after received her Rank1.
She taught fourth grade at Northside Elementary School and was employed by the Harrison County Board of Education from 1971-1989. She was a member of Cynthiana Christian Church, the Retired Teachers Association, Bridge Club and was a former DAR member.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by Sam Jr. on Sept. 16, 2002 and two brothers, Charles Lair and William Thomas Cook.
Survivors include: her sons, Sam W. Arnold III and Charles John "Jack" Arnold; five grandchildren, Sam W. (Sheila) Arnold IV, John Russell (Crystle) Arnold, Anne Wishart (R.J.) Arnold-Ratliff, Charles John (Aleah) Arnold Jr., and William Caswell (Jacqueline) Arnold; and six great-grandchildren, Catron and Campbell Arnold, Keagan Poole, John Russell Arnold Jr., George William Nash Arnold, and Georgia O'Dell Arnold; and her dear friend Michelle Foster.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. at Cynthiana Christian Church, officiated by Dr. Larry W. Bishop and Dr. Timothy Teater. Burial will follow the service in Battle Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 at the church. Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
