L. G. ""Bud"" Florence, 90, Cynthiana, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
He was born in Harrison County, May 5, 1923 to the late Clarence and Minnie Spegal Florence. He was a farmer, retired from Production Plating, a United States World War II Army veteran, a member of Central Christian Church and a recipient of the Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Spence Florence; a sister, Carrie Alice Urshel; and a grandson, Timothy David Vest.
Survivors include: his life-long companion, Vera; three sons, James (Kristy) Vest, Warner Robins, Ga., John T. (Terri) Vest, Cynthiana and Steve (Teresa) Florence, Lexington; a step son, Roy Joe Phillips, Carlisle County, Ark.; two step daughters, Carolyn Wilson, Williamstown and Shawna Lenz, Harrison County; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a special pet dog, Little Bit.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 3 at 12 p.m. at Ware Funeral Home with visitation at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Republican Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 1317 U.S. Hwy. 62 East, Cynthiana, KY 41031.
Pallbearers will be David Spence, Larry Gibson, Andrew Lenz, Shaun Lenz, Timothy Lewis and Dwight Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Slade, Ricky Slade, Austin Lenz, Gilbert Jones, Robbie Baughn and Dr. Joe Nichols.
