Nellie W. Rorer, 84, Cynthiana, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
She was born in Harrison County, July 27, 1928, to the late Levi and Bessie Northcutt Whitaker. She was a retired systems controller for Bluegrass Army Depot, a member of Connersville Christian Church and a Harrison County Homemaker. She was a loving and caring mother and a friend of too many to mention, and touched the lives of many and left a legacy for her children. She enjoyed painting, weaving baskets, sewing, golfing and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and father to her children, Jack Sowder; a daughter, Becky Sowder Roby; a grandson, Jay Sowder; a granddaughter, Leesa Machelle Sowder; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bailey Sowder; two brothers, James Levi Whitaker and Quincy Hill; and a stepdaughter, Donna Kidwell.
Survivors include: her husband, Robert ""Lightning"" Rorer; three sons, Jim Sowder, Gary (Kathy) Sowder and Joe (Anna) Sowder, all of Cynthiana; a daughter, Debbie (Roger) Lemons, Cynthiana; 10 grandchildren, Bill Sowder, Jacque Woods, Scott Roby, Jamee (Steve) Flaherty, Jeff Sowder, Nathan (Kathryn) Sowder, Katie Sowder, Angie Lemons, LeAnn (Jeff) Ammerman and Jessica (Leo) Kearns; 17 great-grandchildren, Daniel Lemons, James Hunter Sowder, Chastyn Link, Kayla Sowder, Jaran Woods, Becca Woods, Sydney Roby, Taylor Roby, Jack Flaherty, Chase Flaherty, Camille Flaherty, Courtney Gaunce, Dustin Sowder, Quentin Sowder, Sidney Sowder, John Colton Sowder and Lauren Ammerman; two stepchildren, Wendy Barcus and Mark Hatfield Jr.; a niece and two nephews, Marilyn Bertram, Gerald Hill and Larry Hill; a sister-in-law, Beulah Hill True and three special friends, Lula Hatfield Thomas, Betty Clifford and Gaye Marsh.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 30 at Ware Funeral Home by Bro. Clifford Neat and Warren French. Burial was in Pythian Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Daniel Lemons, Nathan Sowder, Bill Sowder, Jeff Ammerman, Anthony Eckler and Kerry Florence.
Honorary pallbearers were: granddaughters and Roger Lemons.
