Richard Byrd, 85, Cynthiana, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 20, 1928 in Whitley County to the late John G. and Mary E. Murray Byrd. He was a member of the Gideons International, Masonic Lodge #80 of Augusta and Scottish Rite of Covington, was a Cynthiana Baptist Church Deacon and United States Army and Navy veteran that served in the Korean conflict.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou M. Byrd and two brothers, Bob Byrd and Tom Byrd.
Survivors include: a son, Richard Lee (Sharon) Byrd, Harrison County; a daughter, Lisa (Daryl) Gaunce, Georgetown and one who he loved like a daughter, Leigh Ann (Mark) Cockrell, Cynthiana; four brothers, Ted Byrd, Newport, Ken Byrd, Williamsburg, Jerry Byrd, Cartersville, Ga. and Pat Byrd, Williamsburg; three grandchildren, Joshua Byrd, Brent (Stacia) Cockrell and Lindsey (Skyler) Jones; two step-grandchildren, Kayla Stanfield and Savannah Hernandez; and three great-grandchildren, Joshua Douglas Byrd Jr., Brynlea Rees Cockrell and Kolby Samuel Jones.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at Ware Funeral Home by the Rev. Wayne Spivey with visitation at 9 a.m. A graveside service will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Whitley Memorial Gardens in Williamsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cynthiana Baptist Church Building Fund or the Cynthiana Gideons.
