Robert Harold Poindexter Jr., 86, of Cynthiana, Ky., died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Cynthiana, Ky., May 31, 1926, to the late Robert Harold Poindexter Sr., and Sarah Frances VanDeren Poindexter. He graduated from Cynthiana High in 1944 and attended U of K and Georgia Tech, was a retired lumber and retail building supplier and owner of Poindexter Lumber Company. He was a Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Philippines aboard the U.S.S. ABSD1, was an Eagle Scout, a member of Cynthiana Presbyterian Church, American Legion, Cynthiana Harrison County Historical Society, Historical Society of Mackinaw, Mich., Society of Mayflower Descendants, St. Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 18, Scotish Rite and Knights Templar. He also received Harrison County's First Historical Preservation Award.
Survivors include: his wife, Jane Poindexter; one son, Robert Harold ""Bobby"" Poindexter III, Cynthiana; one daughter, Kiren Alecia Poindexter, Lexington, Ky.; and one sister, Betty Ann Poindexter Selin.
Services were held Monday, Oct. 22 at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by the Rev. Patrick Laney. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Cynthiana-Harrison County Museum or the Flora Shropshire Animal Shelter.
Pallbearers were his nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were: Kenton Ross, Dr. Billy Hawkins Gilley, Tommy Robb, Steven Green and Gary Gaunce.
