Yaccov "Yashka" Bear, born Jan. 13, 1926 in Lithuania, passed way Saturday, May 21, 2016 in Kibbutz Sdot Yam, Israel at the age of 90 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Hanna Bear, his eldest son Amnon Bear and an infant daughter Zahava Bear.
He is survived by his sons, Avi (Karen Schulman) Bear of Cynthiana, Ky., and Haim (Maria) Bear of Apex, N.C.; a daughter, Tamar (Omer) Eshet of Kibbutz Enat, Israel; seven grandchildren including Ilan (Kimberly) and Itai Bear of Cynthiana; and four great-grandchildren.
He was laid to rest May 24 in his beloved home of Kibbutz Sdot Yam - Caesarea, Israel.
Yaccov experienced the worst that humankind inflicted on itself during World War II in Europe and yet made it to the holy land where he helped to build Sdot Yam (a collective farm community) on the Mediterranean Sea. He raised his family, was a proud farmer, and continued to live there for nearly 70 years. May his memory be blessed.
