MENDOTA – Ronald A. Griswold, 58, of Mendota, Ill., died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born May 19, 1954, in Sycamore, the son of Merrill "Bud" and Peggy Lou (Baker) Griswold, he married Patti Haugen on June 7, 1975, in DeKalb.
Ron was a graduate of Genoa-Kingston High School, class of 1972 and received his associate degree from Kishwaukee Community College. He worked as a service technician at Wiese Planning and Engineering in LaSalle.
Ron loved his family, home, working on muscle cars, dancing, music, colors of fall and most of all the "great outdoors" (God's country). Hunting was his passion, along with all winter sports and spring gardening/landscaping. Ron worked hard on his home and yard. He was successful in life by touching so many people with his true and sincere personality. Ron will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Patti of Mendota; three children, Nathan Griswold of Mendota, Melanie (Kyle) Johnson of Farmington and Kristopher Griswold of Milan; one grandson, Gauge Allen Matthew Johnson; two brothers, Randall (Colleen) Griswold of Green Bay, Wis., and Ricky (Connie) Griswold of Jackson, Mo.; two sisters, Debra (Roger) Hodgkinson of Genoa and Robin (Shawn) Brewington of Stillman Valley; mother-in-law, Lois Haugen of Wilton, N.D.; several nieces and nephews; and his two four-legged companions, Pike and Tootsie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Earl Haugen; brother-in-law, John Crittenden; and loving dog, Brut.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 607 10th Ave., Mendota. His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at the Genoa Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for the National Stroke Association, the Shriner's Children's Hospital or Safe House Animal Shelter in Mendota in care of Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main St., Genoa, IL 60135.

Uncle Ronnie, I miss you. I miss the way you showed unconditional love towards my family. I would watch the way you held my children and knew how excited you were to one day hold your own grandchild. You had such a beautiful smile while holding each of my babies and I know you were smiling while holding Gauge for the first time. Please know that deep down in this Griswold family there is a lot of love for one another and we all truly miss you. I will smile every time I see a pinata and remember how full you would stuff it and your baked beans recipe will forever remain a secret!

So sorry for your family's loss. I knew Ron from high school days, he and his brothers were good b-ball players. Lost track of him since then, but want to extend my sympathy to you all. He will live on in his family. Russ & Karen Deverell, Kingston

Deepest sympathy to all the family. Ron was always the center of attention in school, always with a joke. Many times with get togethers I would laugh so hard my sides would hurt. May the fun times stay in your minds as you get thru these tough times. Sending prayers and love to all. Most sincerely, Brenda and Rick Dailey

Hey we are gonna miss ya buddy. We had a lot of fun back in the good old days running around Genoa. Lighting fire crackers and hiding on the roof tops down town late at night. We did not destroy anything thing but we sure had fun hanging out together. The camp outs and bull session will stay in my memories. Well at least they have some one to chop wood and start the fire first thing in the morning in Heaven. We will all be there some day Ron or at least most of us. I hope you meet me at the gate when I get sent that way. I will be thinking of you every time I look at a campfire. Gonna miss ya.

Patti, and kids, I just want to say how much Ron's friendship meant to me, and even though I hadn't seen him in a few years, I'll treasure the times I was able to spend with him. Especially on the ball field playing softball. My ex-wife and I went through the Lamaze classes with you, Ron and Patti. Ron was always cracking up the class, even getting the instructor laughing with the rest of us in the group.
My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you.

Patti, Nathan, Melanie, and Kristopher-
I am very saddened to hear of Ron's passing and am so sorry for your loss. While MANY years have passed since I last saw any of you, I have nothing but the fondest of memories. I remember how "crazy" my dad always seemed when Ron was around. I'll never forget the first time I heard Ron reference my Dad as "Chuck"....I was so baffled. I hope that the many memories that were made with Ron can give you some sort of peace in such a difficult time.
Thinking of you all

You were not suppose to leave me this soon. You were the hand that held me when i needed it. I don't know what i am going to do with out you Ronnie. My heart is so broken right now, like the day i lost John. You told me then that you would not ever let me go. Patti, Nathan, Melanie, and Chris, I am truly at a loss for words to say to you at the loss of your husband and of your father. I had the honor of knowing Ron for over 41 years and I can honestly say that he was truly one of a kind, when the good Lord made him he through away the mold. I can't put into words all of cherished memories I have of him. I think the one thing that stood out for me was that fact that he always made everyone feel that they were special in his book of life. I will cherish the memories I have of him for the rest of my life. May the Lord Bless All of you on your great loss and bring you comfort, and remember that someday you will be together again. Peace to you, Louie Mielke
