Bloyd, Harry J. - Cortland  
Harry J. Bloyd Born: Aug. 7, 1920; in Malta, IL Died: April 24, 2015; in DeKalb, IL Harry James Bloyd, age 94, of Cortland, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 at Kishwaukee Hospital following a short illness. Harry was born August 7, 1920 in rural Malta, to George Washington and Bertha (Kite) Bloyd. He attended DeKalb High School through 10th grade, leaving to join the Civilian Conservation Corps at age 17. He then enlisted in the Coast Guard serving from 1942 through 1945 in the Aleutian Islands. On June 21, 1945 he and Viola Florence Webber married in Chicago, IL and were blessed to enjoy 70 years of true loving devotion. Harry and Vi were baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses on May 3, 1953. Like Noah, he was a steadfast preacher of righteousness, living his faith each day. He zealously obeyed Jesus command at Mathew 26:19 to "make disciples of people... teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you." Having complete confidence in the Bibles promised resurrection of the faithful, Harry rejoiced at the prospect of being reunited with loved ones and living on a paradise earth "where death will be no more". Revelation 21:4 Employed by P.A. Nehring Company, he later retired from Barber Greene. Survivors include his cherished wife, Viola; daughter, Peggy Pinter; grandson, Jason Lake (father, Richard); and twin grandsons, Vincent and Clayton Pinter. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Vincent, George, Lee, Lesley; sister, Marie and grandson Barrett Lake. Memorial Service is Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 3:00 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 13867 Barber Greene Road, Sycamore, IL 60178 Heartfelt Thanks to Dr. Ronald Feldmann and Pine Acres staff for the tender, affectionate care provided to Harry. Private burial of cremated remains at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Resource Bank for Family of Harry Bloyd.

Harmon, Opal L. - Esmond  
Opal L. Harmon Born: Jan. 22, 1917 Died: April 24, 2015 Opal L. Harmon, 98, formerly from Esmond, IL, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015, in Beloit, WI. Opal was born January 22, 1917, in DeKalb County, North of Genoa to Ray and Ethel (Montgomery) Amos. She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1934. She then attended Northern Illinois State Teacher's College in DeKalb, IL, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree and Teaching Certificate in 1938. After College she married Kenneth Charles Harmon on December 23, 1939, in Belvidere, IL. Opal and Kenneth moved to Esmond in 1942 where he farmed and they raised their family. They were active in the community and the local United Methodist Church. In her professional career Opal was a Social Worker for the Department of Children and Family Services for the State of Illinois. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Association in Rochelle. She also served as Treasurer of the DeKalb District United Methodist Women for many years as well as a Lay Member to the Northern Illinois Conference of The United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Genoa chapter of the Eastern Star and served as chaplain. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on November 16, 1965; her parents; and two sisters, Alma Myers and Irene Harmon. Opal is survived by her three sons, Michael (Elena) Harmon of Worthington, MN, Thomas (Susan) Harmon of Park Rapids, MN, and David (Terri) Harmon of Machesney Park, IL; eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the Esmond United Methodist Church, 675 Main Street, Esmond, with Pastors David Rogula and Thomas Harmon officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street, Rochelle. Burial will follow the funeral service at Greenview Cemetery in Esmond. Jensen, Kevin R. - Naperville  
Kevin R. JEnsen Kevin Richard Jensen, age 21, a longtime resident of Naperville, passed away April 24, 2015. He was born April 16, 1994 in Edina, MN. Kevin is survived by his parents, Margaret "Peggy" Jensen and Bruce Jensen; his siblings, Cara Jensen, Kyle Jensen and Cody Jensen; his grandparents, Ralph and Delores Jensen, Richard and Mary Ellen Wholey; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. As a young boy, Kevin loved to run around the house in nothing on but his Batman capes sometimes with his cowboy boots on, he was obsessed with anything superhero. Kevin had a passion for building Lego creations, and began a lifelong joy of reading at an early age. During his school years, Kevin enjoyed participating in the Breckenridge Breakers Swim Club, his St. Raphael Football team the Giants, and the Neuqua Valley Lacrosse Team. He developed a passion for cooking and had dreamed of becoming a chef one day. Kevin particularly loved trying new recipes and different Sushi places. He loved participating in the annual fishing trips to Canada with the men in his family who enjoyed it as a tradition. Kevin loved to fish. He liked the quiet time on the lake and the thrill of catching a walleye. Kevin knew his way around a video game or two and a recent goal was to create and sell his own game. Kevin was a sensitive soul and deep feeler. He was patient and kind to everyone he came in contact with. He was easy going and easy to please. Kevin was soft spoken but had loud things to say when people listened. He was a movie critic. He always had an awesome joke under his breath if you could hear it. He was rational and logical. He was looking forward to getting back into drawing and piano lessons. Kevin was the best brother or son anyone could ever ask for. He will be greatly missed. Kevin graduated from Neuqua Valley High School in 2012, and most recently lived in DeKalb with his brother, Kyle, and worked as a CNC Operator at DeKalb Forge. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a Kevin Jensen Memorial Scholarship Fund for a Programming scholarship at Kishwaukee College in DeKalb. Johnsen, John R. - Dekalb  
John R. Johnsen Born: July 29, 1953; in Elgin, IL Died: April 29, 2015; in Geneva, IL John Robert Johnsen, age 61, of DeKalb, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva. Born July 29, 1953, in Elgin, the son of Robert S. and Charlotte (Prasch) Johnsen, John married Martha "Marty" Mosher on September 23, 1978, in Washington, Illinois. John was a man with an endless quest for learning, planning and giving; a devoted husband loving dad and awesome grandpa; McDonald's legend, garage sale organizer; party, event and wedding planner; determined fisherman; avid treasure collector; grill master; teller of tall tales; Halloween makeup artist; motivational speaker; proud Viking; and forever the champion of his family. His family will always be grateful for the legacy he left them, "Dad is King!" John was McDonald's longest-tenured employee, of 45 years, upon his retirement in June 2012. He was a member of Christ the Teacher Parish in DeKalb. John was a soccer coach for AYSO and YMCA, a member and chairman of St. Mary School Bingo Committee, a Cub Scout leader for Pack 173, and a DeKalb Wrestling Club Hall of Fame Inductee. He is survived by his wife, Marty; son, Jared (Rachel) and children, Shelby, Vincent, Danielle and Vivian, son, Jordan, daughter, Kari (Jordan) Myers, and son Jake; sisters, Sue (Don) Schroeder and Kate (Alan) Raymer; brother, Mike (Debbie) Johnsen; parents-in-law, Jack and Charlotte Mosher; sisters-in-law, Sara (Rob) Ahten, Amy (Ross) Davis, Betsy (Larry) Wanat, Molly Mosher and Laura (Tim) Berlett; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Axel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Charlotte Johnsen; and grandparents, Ray and Charlotte Prasch and Sigurd and Marie Johnsen. The memorial Mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2015, at Newman Center Christ the Teacher Parish, 512 Normal Road, DeKalb, with Fr. Matthew McMorrow celebrating. Anna B. Borchert Kozuch Born: Feb. 11, 1922; in Esmond, IL Died: April 11, 2015; in DeKalb, IL Anna Belle Borchert Kozuch, 93, of DeKalb, died Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Bethany Rehab & Nursing Center. Born February 11, 1922, in Esmond, the daughter of John and Edna (Lawler) Myers, she resided in the DeKalb-Sycamore area all her life. She married Elmer Borchert on August 31, 1940; he passed away in 1975. She later married Edward Kozuch in 1981; Ed passed away February 14, 1996. Anna Belle worked in the food service cafeteria for 10 years at GE and retired in 1982. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Gary) Thompson and Bonnie (Richard) Lynch; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; brothers, Bob, Cliff, Hank and Jack; and sisters, Mildred (Harry) Wallin, Elsie (Art) Dimond, Bernice (Everett) Tucker and Betty (Paul) Carey. The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb, with Connie Lynch of First Congregational Church of Malta officiating. McCarthy, Michael W. - Crystal Lake  
Michael W. McCarthy Born: Aug. 29, 1953 Died: April 13, 2015 Michael W. McCarthy passed away suddenly on April 13, 2015. He was born on August 29, 1953, to Mary (Riley) and Warren (Mac) McCarthy, in Woodstock. Mike grew up in Crystal Lake, and graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School in 1970. He received an Associate of Science degree from McHenry County College, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois University, and did one year of Doctorate study at North Dakota State University. Mike was a jack of all trades, and worked a variety of jobs. The last few years, Mike worked on vintage cars, and in his spare time would do carpentry work. Mike loved being with family and friends. Whether it was at his favorite local bar, or at family gatherings, he always had a good time and a smile on his face. Mike had a laugh you would never forget. He loved being outdoors and putting up his tent to sleep under the stars. Mike is survived by his brother, Pat (Barb); sisters, Janice and Terri (Blake) Bryant; brother-in-law, Gary Personette; and sister-in-law, Peggy McCarthy. He also had many more family and friends who were very dear to him. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Clarie Personette; and brother, Dennis. There will be a celebration of Mike's life at the Lost Mine in Sycamore, IL on May 9, 2015, starting at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sycamore Moose Lodge #1506, where Mike was a member, and worked from 2004 to 2008.
