C. MAXINE WILLEY(1927 - 2014)

DeKALB – C. Maxine Willey, 86, of DeKalb, Ill., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Bethany Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, DeKalb.
She was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Grand Detour, to Frank A. and Lydia Pearl (Byrd) Schoenholz.
After graduating from DeKalb High School in 1944, she attended Northern Illinois State Teachers College for one year. She was married to G. Roger Willey on Feb. 19, 1950, in Dixon.
While raising her young family, she decided to work toward the completion of her bachelor's degree. At the time, older students were an oddity on campus, but she persevered. After graduating from Northern Illinois University, she taught special education in Oregon and Mt. Morris for 20 years. She also volunteered as an adult literacy tutor for many years into retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in DeKalb where she served on the congregation council and on various committees. Reading and spending time with her family were her greatest pleasures.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Darrel) Henson of DeKalb and Laura LeRoy of Casa Grande, Ariz.; two sons, Jeff (Susan) Willey, and Jim Willey, of DeKalb; six grandchildren, Dana (William) Dunaway, Parkville, Mo.; Melinda (Dan Heckelsberg) Henson, of Aurora; Kristina (Kurt) Oland, of DeKalb; Brian (Sarah) Willey, of O'Fallon, Mo.; Scott (Rebecca) Willey, of Joliet; Jayce Willey, of DeKalb; and nine great-grandchildren, Grant, Kyle, Natalie and Mallory Dunaway, Everett Heckelsberg, Luke and Amelia Oland, Ariea Willey, and Zachary Willey, as well as another great-grandson due in June. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Erma Schoenholz; brother-in-law, David (Kay) Willey; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, in 1992; son, Mark Roger; sister, Marvel Heagy; brother, Elliott (Bud) Schoenholz; and an infant great-granddaughter, Madeline Leah Dunaway.
A memorial service will be Sunday, Feb. 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 303 S. Seventh St., DeKalb, with the Rev. Janet Hunt officiating. The visitation will be at 3 p.m. with the service to follow at 4 p.m.
