DeKALB – Frank J. Murphy, 81, of DeKalb, Ill., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, in the Bethany Healthcare and Rehab Center in DeKalb.
Born May 14, 1931, in Rockford, he was the son of George and Joan (Arrant) Murphy. Frank was married to the late Harriett Clark on March 7, 1964, in Rockford. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2002.
Frank was the owner of DeKalb Glass Company, where he retired from in 1989. He lived in DeKalb since 2002 after moving from Rockford. Frank served in the U.S. Navy
from 1950-52. Frank was a member of the DeKalb Moose and the Rockford Eagles.
Survivors include daughter, Tammy Svartoien of DeKalb; stepdaughter, Sandy Bell of Florida; grandsons, Kyle Svartoien of Waterman and Weston Svartoien of DeKalb; Joe (Carmella) Bell of Missouri; sisters, Betty Murphy of Wisconsin and Georgean DiGiovanni of Rockford; and brother, Thomas Murphy of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
A private service will be at a later date. Cremation will be at the Finch Crematory. A celebration of life will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Sullivan's Tavern. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
