Gary J. Allen, 66, of Genoa, Ill., died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 16, 1944, in Elgin, the son of Chester and Ethel (Lange) Allen, he married Eileen Huxhold on Nov. 10, 1962, in Carpentersville.
Gary was a graduate of the Dundee High School. He worked as a truck driver for various companies, including Knox Motors and Advance Transportation. He also worked part-time at Main Street Liquors in Genoa. Gary loved to ride his motorcycle and was a member of GWRA – Gold Wing Riders Association, DeKalb County Chapter.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Genoa; one daughter, Diana (Jim) Caldwell of Kingston; one son, James Allen of Genoa; three grandchildren, Amanda and Molly Caldwell and Thomas Allen; one great-granddaughter, Adalee Sheppard; one sister, Ginney O'Brien of Elgin; his brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Phyllis Lindquist of Hampshire; two nephews, Kenneth and Kevin Lindquist; two nieces, Cyndi Violett and Lori Lowe; and many dear friends, including Bruce Burklow, Bill (Mary) Keeton and Larry (Bev) Hicks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Robert.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, at Faith United Methodist Church, 325 S. Stott St., Genoa, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Diss officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at the local family-owned and -operated Slater-Butala Funeral Home of Genoa and from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of service at the church.
