Leo Raymond Adkins, 69, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at his home with his loving family by his bedside.
He was born Sept. 29, 1940, in Sycamore, the son of Martin and Edna (Flinty) Adkins. Leo married Phyllis M. Johnson on July 2, 1960, in Sycamore.
Leo was employed at Anaconda Wire & Manufacturing for 30 years and later at Walt Machine and Tools in Cortland. He enjoyed his family, yard work and garage sales, both buying and selling. He loved to travel and was an expert at repairing almost anything.
He is survived by his son, Alan (Laura) Adkins of DeKalb; granddaughter, Erica Adkins of Hawthorne, Nev.; his companion, Lori Paulsen; brother, Jerry (Dixie) Adkins of Belvidere; three sisters, Betty Gaul of DeKalb and Ruth (Dennis) Stover and Jennie Smith, both of Sycamore; sister-in-law, Marilyn Adkins of DeKalb; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; and two brothers, Pearly and Dan Adkins.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, with graveside services to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore, with the Rev. Robert Vaughn officiating.
