WITTENBERG, Wis. – Madelyn Mae Froom, 59, Wittenberg, Wis., passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital, Weston, Wis. Maddy died peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a courageous fight with breast cancer.
She was born on Oct. 23, 1953, in Manitowoc, Wis., the daughter of the late Cy and Vi (Strzyzewski) Miller.
Maddy attended elementary through high school in Manitowoc, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1972. She then attended UW-Eau Claire, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in education in January of 1976. She was immediately hired in the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District as a middle school language arts teacher at the Wittenberg Middle School; a position she held her entire teaching career, retiring in June of 2010, after 34 years of service. In addition to her teaching position, she coached forensics and was the middle school student council advisor. Maddy loved her teaching position, her colleagues, as well as the extra-curricular activities; most of all she loved her students.
She also was active in her community, serving on The Darwin E. Smith Community Aquatic Center Steering Committee and The Wittenberg Public Library Board. She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church serving on various committees and fundraisers. Maddy's spirit, positive attitude and smile were contagious to all who knew her. More than anything, Maddy dearly loved spending quality time with her entire family together. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Maddy is survived by her husband, Rick Froom, whom she married on Dec. 8, 1979, at The First United Methodist Church of Wittenberg. Maddy is further survived by four children, Amanda Froom, of Germantown, Md.; Chandra (Aaron) Reivitis, of Shawano, Wis., Brandon (Karissa) Froom, of Port Washington, Wis., and Tommy Froom, of Wittenberg. A special joy to her was the birth of her first grandchild, Natalie Mae, born to Brandon and Karissa Froom. She is further survived by her siblings, Dianne Miller, of Moscow, Russia, Debbie (Jack) Burke, Newton, Wis., and Scott (Sarita) Miller, of Manitowoc. In addition, Maddy is survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Maddy was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father in-law, Catherine and William Froom; and brother in-law, John Froom.
